Historical goods of the WIDE and Japanese Internet, posters explaining working group researches, and video messages from the internet researchers of the world, were exhibited at the symposium.

SUMMARY
The history of the Internet is briefly described. Current trends is then be discussed, including the growth of Internet commerce, the use of the Internet for new and more demanding applications, and the unprecedented worldwide growth in numbers of users. These trends require a major reworking of parts of the core Internet technology. This, together with support for new applications, are major foci of the U.S. Internet2 and its partners in other countries. The talk is closed with a discussion of the potential impact of the Next Generation Internet in various sectors.

    SUMMARY
    IPv6 is attracting us as a new Internet protocol to provide us the essential features for the next generation information infrastructure, such as security and reliability. Those features are not successfully implemented with IPv4.
    In this session, each panelists presented their position on the IPv6 and discussed the future direction and possibility.

    SUMMARY
    Recently, we hear many people quesion "Why Japan is so behind with the Internet ?". Is it true ? Are we really behind ? WIDE members believe "no", because they know some of the Internet technology were actually lead by Japanese researchers. Each panelists addresses the current problems in Japanese Internet environment from various aspects including business and technology.
